A billion is a difficult number to comprehend.

Mon Aug 11, 2008 at 01:27:56 PM PDT

A billion seconds ago it was 1959. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

Now think about the size of the notional value of the mountain of all derivative of which 95% are unregulated OTC Derivatives: One Quadrillion, one thousand one hundred and forty four trillion. (Source: The Bank for International settlements).

Some are resting assured that all financial problems can be handled by the use of public funds to sustain the usurious financial elite that created these problems. If one can sleep soundly believing there are no CONSEQUENCES, then one must be taking some heavy duty sleep medication.

Emergency Message to the Nation

Sun Sep 02, 2007 at 04:30:40 AM PDT

Lyndon LaRouche, Jr. has generally, in my experience, been accused falsely of being an "unreliable source" or worse at this DailyKos site. Which is to say, sadly, that I have little grounds upon which to base any expectation of a warm response to this message.

But I don't come here to feel good or bask in warmth of camaraderie. I come here to learn and share ideas and resources. I know others do the same, and I know that among those who do enjoy friendships made or extended here are people who think, study and express themselves thoughtfully. I know patriots visit and write here. So I do have some grounds that this message, this Emergency Message will be received thoughtfully by some.

I have learned a lot from Mr. LaRouche and his associates in the last six or seven years. I am saddened that his deep knowledge of economics is suppressed. I owe it to him and to my mother country, the United States of America, and in fact simply to fellow human beings all around the world, to see that this message by him is posted here, now. It is copied in full, below your kind click.

DEEPTHROAT Distraction

Thu Aug 02, 2007 at 01:09:50 AM PDT

Sorry. We are on the same team. Bear with me a minute. This won't take long.

I just learned that this week, the Senate is practically rushing through an overhaul of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), at the president’s behest.

Abraham Lincoln on Puppet Presidents and Occupying Iraq

Mon Feb 19, 2007 at 04:00:16 AM PDT

In contrast to what Republican propaganda would have people believe, the real Abe Lincoln exposed the lies of Anglo-American financiers and Southern racists who used their ill-gotten influence and generally repulsive pushiness the United States to wage aggressive war — against Mexico.

Lincoln put his career on the line when he exposed the lies underlying the Mexican War. In fact, he lost public office for a time.

Click through and listen to Abe talking of his President.

Only FRAUD can stop the Democrats from winning the House AND Senate

Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 03:46:30 AM PDT

Under what conditions do millions of allegedly "free" people knowingly acquiesce to being deceived, dominated and deprived of their own political will? How is it that even those who were politically engaged for the first time resign themselves to an unjust fate, refusing even to consider what happened to our country? Why do progressive citizens actively dismiss and even malign a small group of courageous, devoted people working day and night on their behalf to uncover, calculate, analyze, and evaluate the extensive, varied forms of criminal sabotage that undermined their democracy? How are Americans becoming complacent with escalating fraudulent activity? In other words, how do so many people live with the knowledge that they have been tricked before, were just tricked again--and then submit to life under the power of those who tricked them?

Physics Prof.: 'Voting Republican Is Voting To Wage Nuclear War'

Fri Oct 27, 2006 at 11:15:47 AM PDT

Jorge Hirsch is a Professor of Physics at the U.C. San Diego, a fellow of the American Physical Society, and organizer of an April 2006 letter to President George W. Bush, co-signed by twelve other physicists, warning of the dangers of using tactical nuclear weapons against Iran.

Now he has issued a heavily documented warning that if the Republicans are not defeated in this midterm election, the United States will likely go to war with Iran "before President Bush leaves office."

Fighting Words From Harry Reid

Mon Apr 17, 2006 at 10:17:43 PM PDT

On the front page, McJoan informed us, in GOP Immigration Reform Game Plan: Fear and Lies, of the RNC's Spanish-language smears and lies attacking Harry Reid on the subject of immigration.

As I type, McJoan's diary is at the very bottom of the front page. I've posted Harry's response there, but nobody will see it. So here again, for the record, what Harry is saying.

How to Stop Alito's Appointment

Sat Jan 28, 2006 at 06:38:02 AM PDT

All we need is for one Senator to speak, on the Senate floor:

"I've listened to the arguments in recent days, and none of us have hit upon the right question with the appropriate emphasis.

"Sam Alito is a believer in a doctrine of law that allowed the establishment of Adolph Hitler's dictatorship. This man believes in Nazi legal doctrine. We can prove it"

Those would be words that could well save our nation. The question is, do we have a Senator with the courage to speak them?

We can't presume to know what the immediate reaction would be in the seconds following their utterance. Perhaps the statement could throw some Republicans into an uproar. If so, that would be good; hello national press coverage, hello nationwide dialogue and argument.

Taking a Step Back and Clearing Our Heads

Sat Dec 10, 2005 at 01:42:20 PM PDT

Since so many other things in the news were demanding people's attention when Rep. Pelosi gave her speech at Harvard University December 2nd, I don't think it has been mentioned. I'm glad she doesn't get totally rolled-over by the day-to-day happenings and maintains her long range vision. First let's put it in perspective.

The core of the policy referred to by Rep. Pelosi on December 2 at Harvard, is based on the concept of NASA. There were two models we'd been discussing. One, was the Roosevelt 1930s mobilization, which led to our capabilities, in 1940-41. But the problem was, because this Roosevelt recovery was done under kinds of pre-war, wartime conditions--the point was, if we're raising the question of this kind of mobilization, won't people inside the United States and outside the United States, think this means we're going for war, or for empire?

So we said, "Wait--Let's take NASA." What Kennedy did with his decision to put a man on the Moon within a decade: That was one of the greatest projects in modern history.

He's Dead

Sun Nov 20, 2005 at 06:43:33 AM PDT

This story, written by "11 Bravo," is stolen from DU. I read it and I read through all the comments there, and it left me speechless.

This summer I posted about a young Army Lt. my wife and I met at a wedding. He was headed to Iraq within the week. As an ex-grunt, I struck up a conversation with him. I mostly just wanted to tell him to keep his head down, but the conversation evolved. I learned he was a Kerry supporter who didn't buy any of Bush's bullshit rationales for this war. But he told me that the civilian leadership of our nation was sending him to fight, and as a professional, he would go and do all that he could to ensure that the members of his platoon would make it home safely.

About three weeks after the initial post, I posted an update. The young man was in Walter Reed, missing his right eye, most of his right arm, and facing extensive reconstructive surgery for severe thoracic trauma. I visited him once, but always seemed to find a reason not to return. Eventually, he was transferred to a facility closer to his Pennsylvania home, and I never saw him again. I will regret that for a long time.

Bush on the Couch - Update

Sun Oct 23, 2005 at 11:56:29 AM PDT

On Saturday October 22, I listened to a one-hour radio show (you can download it) with Dr. Justin Frank, author of Bush on the Couch, Inside the mind of the President. Here are my notes. This is not a transcript, but I hope it conveys the gist of what I think are some insightful and thought-provoking ideas, using pretty much the words of Dr. Frank.

(I dislike having to say this, but will the LaRouche-phobic people kindly spare us the unproductive grunts and farts? LaRouche is not on the show, it's moderated by Jeff Steinberg. And Dr. Frank does most of the talking. Just go read something else if you are feeling not well or are not interested.)

Conyers: Help Free Ohio from Repub Corruption and Electoral Abuses

Thu Oct 13, 2005 at 06:37:38 AM PDT

Please act today to end the corruption and provide free and fair elections that affect all Americans. Visit Reform Ohio Now - the organization behind the initiatives to find plenty of resources. *These ballot initiatives are so important, not just because they will provide fairer elections, but because they will provide a national bellwether to measure the growing strength of the Democratic Party. Victory in these measures will lend momentum nationally, will provide Democrats up to 6 six new Congressional seats in the 2006 elections, and could help restore a Democratic majority to Congress*. More background and action information in body of Rep. Conyers' Oct. 12 text below the fold. You need not be an Ohio resident to help.

ACTION ALERT! Stop Rethugs from denying the right for millions to vote!

Sat Oct 08, 2005 at 03:05:05 AM PDT

If you want to have a chance of a fair election in this country, please act on this post.

HR 3910, introduced by Rep. Tom Feeney of Florida (same Feeney who asked Clint Curtis to write him a vote- flipping program) would render voter verified paper records (VVPR) effectively meaningless, while jeopardizing the ability of millions of Americans to exercise their right to vote.

There has been talk that Rush Holt's Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act (HR 550) would be going to mark-up sometime in October. How timely that Feeney would produce a bill that will now allow the House leaders to blend the two bills and make one bill that represents their view of privatization of elections.

HR 3910 would allow any individual state to disregard the only record that the voter has confirmed, in favor of the record inside the electronic machine, rendering the voter verified paper ballot a meaningless and expensive placebo. The bill's Voter ID section requires a government-issued photo ID to vote in person, or a copy of it to vote by mail.

Rep. John Conyers' call to action

Sun Aug 21, 2005 at 01:30:45 AM PDT

I can't believe this has not been posted here, but I can't find it. So . . .

(Just a snippet)

Republicans find themselves with plunging poll numbers and an uncertain electoral landscape in 2006. Failure for them in their drive to keep control of the House of Representatives, and one party rule in Washington, means that, if reelected, I will become Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Henry Waxman will become Chairman of the Government Reform Committee, Louise Slaughter will become Chair of the Rules Committee, Charlie Rangel will Chair the Ways and Means Committee, and Nancy Pelosi will be the first woman to be Speaker of the House. That means accountability for this Administration with a stiff dose of the truth.

Buried Foundations of our American Republic--Upon What Do We Stand?

Fri Jul 01, 2005 at 09:18:10 PM PDT

We should learn to know history--especially the history of our republic--in secondary school and at University; alas we do not. As with economics and science, we are bludgeoned with bags of empiricist crap which is mostly memorized short-term for purposes of course-passing, and what is longer remembered is distilled crap. The exam on the following material will be in the real world, and the reward for passing will be in having helped ourselves and our posterity avoid a repeat of more deeply dark and horrible times, and get back on course toward fulfilling the potential envisioned by, among others, Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

This research having to do with the historic roots of our American republic casts light on some things which I believe must serve as foundation to political policies and agendas which go beyond the single-issue flatland Band-Aids which ain't going to cure the soon-to-be apparent critical phase of our modern civilization's disease.

[One minute of scanning the bold type should suffice to tell you whether you want to read the whole thing or not.]

They are at our flank, patriots!

Sun May 15, 2005 at 12:08:44 AM PDT

"On this issue, we must act now, as if our lives depended upon that action. Our nation's economic future, and much more besides, does depend upon that action."

General George Washington's actions against the Hessians, like Frederick the Great's decision at Leuthen,

Czar Alexander I's courageous acceptance of the Prussian leaders' advice on trapping Napoleon's invading forces,

General Douglas MacArthur's Inchon Landing decision,

...are only typical of famous cases in modern history in which a situation required a combination of competence and courage from an exceptional individual who acted against lack of  quality command-decision capability among other leaders.

I say they are at our flank -- where we are not focussing. I do not say abandon the front lines. I do not say follow me. I cry this out so that those who are ready to hear and able to lend a hand on this part of the field will be alerted.
