okay, i've just about had it.  when a poster accuses a u.s. senator of "trolling for mojo" (like that senator gives a damn about having his comment or diary "recommended"... is just too much for me at this point and time.

i'm done posting until dk4 is up and running.  i am not willing to put myself through the annoyance and total frustration of dealing with flame wars, meta mulch and nonsensical hysterical reactions that have to be retracted or walked back every few days.

i wanted to thank kos for bringing the new format on site quickly - and until then, i'm going to go play in that pond to get the best feel for negotiating and making it work to the best end.

more below.

in the meantime, i'll probably check to see if any serious diaries or worthwhile entries that inform and inspire are written, but i'm signing myself off the comments side of things until the new site is up and running.

is this a gbcw? absolutely not - it is a sanity saving attempt to avoid the aggravation and anger at what is happening around here.

i don't need no stinkin' nader to give me "agita" - i have no desire to be embarrassed by other posters who make idiotic statements to u.s. senators - i have little use for flame wars... so, i'm gonna read until the new format hits the screens.

my rl friends and critters will be much happier (they've said so) now that mom won't be raging non-stop at windmills that are "progressives, so i'm going to get on my chestnut steed and leave the windmills to others.

see ya on dk4!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

it SHOULD have been thrown away before the commenter hit post, it is what i find extremely embarrassing about this site of late.

the accusations and assignations of motives to every politician or poster that holds a different view than the commenter have gone over the top.

there is no civil discourse any longer - only polarization and infighting and slurs and denigration.

i'm tired of it - was tired of it by the third grade.

what i came to this site for originally was for intellectual content, astute political analysis, interaction with those in government who actually came here to listen to our point of view.

now, there are very few analytical diaries (those that ARE here are excellent, btw), mostly opinionated rants without substantiation; very little interaction, mostly attacks and counter attacks; and it seems that NO one is actually hearing or listening to opposite points of view.

everyone is so busy defending their own turf that they are downright lethal in their retorts.

i'm tired of it.  i want to interact with adults, not hysterical school children (of all ages) that can't stand countering opinions and aren't willing to grow and expand their own views by realizing that by listening, they MIGHT just learn something!

so, waiting with baited breath until dk4 is up - then i'll be back in full activist mode!

in my 7 years on this site, i have given out less than two dozen hr's.  i don't hr unless there is a good reason - and disagreeing with the poster is not one of them.

read my explanations and you'll understand why i hr.

again, people hold differing opinions - that is fine by me - but how one expresses that opinion in terms of personal attack or ad hom is what attracts my attention.  when i feel a comment is too far over the top, i use the hr button.

again, go through the thousands and thousands of comments i have rated - i doubt you'll even find 20 hrs.

and, i rec'd your comment because you, too, deserve to be heard.

been practicing using the block user feature - i really like that we can be discerning on how we choose to spend our time on dk4.

it's better than community monitoring that depends on which side of the cult/megawar/divide someone is on.

this will allow people to choose how to participate - it won't eliminate the meta wars but it WILL allow those who wish not to participate to opt out of allowing it to interfere with serious discussions.

      real life valuable stuff.

after lakoff's diary today, i did some research and found i can audit classes at berkeley with the instructor's permission - at the senior discount rate of $25/class!  i can AFFORD that!

will be checking to see the schedule for january and then asking for permission to sit in the back of the room.

there is a reason i am not leaving the site totally - and lakoff and other similar suburb diaries are at the top of the list!

point of info for any interested:  if you are a senior (age varies per university), there are senior discount programs - ucla is one class for a donation of $150 to ucla center for aging and $250 for two classes - (these are the regular classes without credit on paper, just for the mind).  google university senior audit programs.  also, younger thans can also audit classes for a fee - without credit.  hmmmmm

some of the benefits from hanging around here and reading!

dk4 won't "get rid of" anyone, but users can set up their own specialty sections and that is where the "block user" feature can be applied.

for example, the manager of a section on specific topic can block out any user or refuse to allow them into the group initially if that user is disruptive to the discussion (and, i suppose, if someone just doesn't like the other one - but those types of arbitrary exclusions, i'm guessing, will mean that many people will opt out of reading or participating in that group).

there could be a all nader group that could meet and extol his virtues to the highest heavens without all us meanies coming in and cursing his name - and that's okay by me - i won't have to see those comments or diaries if i choose to not go there.

all of the diaries will still be visible - but in a specific group, the diary can be brought into it for further discussion within a smaller circle.

i think you'll like the layout - the whole face is different - you can search by most recent, most rec'd, by author, by many more subtexts.  it's easier than the hotlists and very clean in format.

over on Markos' Diary, She-who-must-not-be-named is putting up the biggest opposition to the dropping of the Reclist. As Markos writes:

So what if the current incentive is to make the rec list? The system is gamed to the extent that new diarists have a bitch of a time getting there because it's monopolized by the celebrity diarists. My goal is to have everyone read as widely as possible. The current site doesn't do that. The new site might or might not work according to plan, but it won't be any worse than the status quo.

            Bold for emphasis.

Yeah, Markos went there. I want to frame this and hang it on my den wall.

PS: I just noticed that Markos' comment is '666#c666'. Coincidence? I think not.

the name-calling, the nasty remarks, the one liners that are meant to put someone down or shut them up are the things that will get me to hit the "boot" button.

i've done threads on other websites before with the strict no ad hom policy and it worked - some of the most different opinions actually convinced each other to revisit their ideas and come to a third position.

The infighting and insults and endless back and forth. Your poll was missing only one element - "all of the above"

However, having found the "trolling for mojo" comment you reference I think you have way over reacted on that one. I seriously doubt the commenter thought that the Senator was hoping to get DKos mojo, a rec diary, maybe a boost for TU status. Like he, and others like him, would give a rat's ass about that stuff. We do, however, get some of these high profile folks posting to burnish their progressive credentials. And sure, if you want to "make your mark", get eye-balls and solicit signers of your credential burnishing petition/open letter, DKos is a good place to post it - especially if you follow the bashing tone du jour. I'm equally tired about that kind of maneuver, too.
